What is Lamp Efficiency

Lamp efficiency measures how effectively a light source converts input power into visible light. It is expressed as the ratio between the total luminous flux emitted by a lamp and the total amount of input power it consumes. This ratio indicates the efficiency of the lamp in converting electrical energy into visible light output.

Lamp efficiency can vary depending on the type of light source. For example, traditional incandescent lamps have relatively low lamp efficiency, as a significant portion of the input power is wasted as heat rather than being converted into visible light. On the other hand, more energy-efficient light sources such as fluorescent lamps and LEDs have higher lamp efficiency, as they can convert a larger proportion of the input power into visible light.

Factors that can influence lamp efficiency include the design and construction of the lamp, the materials used, and the technology employed. For instance, the use of advanced materials and technologies, such as phosphor coatings in fluorescent lamps or semiconductor materials in LEDs, can enhance lamp efficiency.
