What is JA8 and Title 24 Compliant

JA8 and Title 24 Compliant refers to lighting products and fixtures that meet the energy-efficient standards set by Title 24 of the California Energy Commission. Title 24, also known as the California Building Standards Code, imposes additional requirements for energy efficiency in both residential and non-residential buildings in California.

The purpose of JA8 and Title 24 Compliant lighting is to improve the quality of life in indoor and outdoor environments by reducing greenhouse gas emissions and lowering energy costs. These lighting products are designed to be environmentally friendly and cost-effective options for consumers.

To obtain the JA8 rating, lighting products must undergo rigorous testing to ensure they meet higher efficiency standards compared to other bulbs. Once a lighting product meets these strict requirements, it is considered approved by the state of California and will have the JA8 date code printed directly on it.

JA8/Title 24 rating is not mandatory for selling lighting products in California, it is required for new construction projects. This means that if you are undertaking a new construction project in California, you will need to use JA8 and Title 24 Compliant lighting fixtures to meet the energy efficiency standards mandated by Title 24.
