Stop Cooling Empty Rooms, Start Saving Energy
Tired of air conditioners running unnecessarily? The RZ050-DP tackles energy waste head-on. Using its PIR motion sensor, it detects when a room is empty and sends a pre-learned command – like “Power OFF” or “Set to 28°C” – to your split AC unit after a set time delay. Installation is simple, and its dual power capability offers unmatched flexibility: use batteries for a completely wireless setup or plug into a USB port for continuous operation without battery changes. USB power adapter is not included but is available separately if needed (Plug Type: US, UK, EU).

Personalized Comfort Through Command Learning
Go beyond simple shut-off. In addition to flexible dual-power operation, the RZ050-DP features the ability to learn two distinct commands from your existing AC remote. Teach it an “Away” command (required, e.g., OFF or a high temp) for when the room is vacant, and an optional “Welcome” command (e.g., ON or a cool 21°C) to activate when someone enters. This enables true automation – ensuring the AC turns off efficiently but also potentially turning it on or setting your preferred temperature upon arrival, perfect for immediate comfort or maintaining pet-safe temperatures.

Features & Benefits
- Automates AC Control (ON/OFF/Temperature): Regulates air conditioner runtime based on room occupancy for 20% to 50% energy savings.
- Learns Two Distinct IR Commands: Learns an “Away” command (required discrete OFF or setback temp like 28°C) and an optional “Welcome” command (discrete ON or 21°C) from your remote.
- Broad Compatibility: Works with split, window, and portable ACs operated by remotes with discrete commands (single-button toggle remotes not supported).
- Dual Power Supply: Powered by 2x AAA batteries (1+ year life) or continuous 5V DC Micro-USB (1m USB cable included; 5V USB wall adapter sold separately).
- Intelligent Night Mode: Ambient light sensor (<1 Lux) prevents AC turn-off during sleep while keeping entry turn-ON active.
- Safe & Non-Invasive: Operates via external infrared commands without touching internal AC wiring or voiding manufacturer warranty. Transmits commands twice in 2 seconds for redundancy.
- Adjustable Vacancy Delay: Choose from 15min, 30min, 1h (default), or 2h (in Night Mode, 15m and 30m automatically default to 1h).
- Visual Alerts & Testing: Lens flashes red for motion detection (can be toggled ON/OFF) and provides a 5-flash low battery alert. Manual buttons enable instant command testing.

FAQ
Which air conditioning units are compatible with the RZ050-DP?
The RZ050-DP is compatible with split, window, and portable air conditioners that operate via an infrared (IR) remote control using discrete ON and OFF commands (or discrete temperature setpoints). It learns IR signals directly from your remote. It cannot be used with AC units that use a single toggle button (where one button alternates between powering ON and powering OFF) because the RZ050-DP transmits each learned command twice within two seconds for redundancy.
How is the RZ050-DP powered, and does it include a cable?
The RZ050-DP features a dual power supply: it can run on 2x AAA batteries (not included) for over 1 year of cordless operation, or connect to continuous 5V DC power via its Micro-USB port using the included 1-meter USB to Micro-USB cable (standard 5V USB wall adapter sold separately). When connected via USB, the device automatically draws power from the USB port, preserving battery life for backup.
Can the RZ050-DP automatically turn my air conditioner ON as well as OFF?
Yes. While learning the “Power OFF” command is required, the RZ050-DP can also learn an optional “Power ON” command (or startup temperature setpoint). When the controller is in standby following boot-up or after transmitting an automatic OFF command, the very first motion detected transmits the learned ON command. Subsequent movements while the room remains occupied do not re-send the ON command; they only reset the vacancy countdown timer.
If I manually turn OFF my AC with the remote while remaining in the room, will the RZ050-DP turn it back on?
No. The RZ050-DP operates as an open-loop controller without telemetry feedback from the AC. Once motion has initially triggered the system, the controller transitions to occupied status. If you manually power off the AC using your remote while remaining inside, ongoing movements continuously reset the vacancy timer. The RZ050-DP will not transmit an automatic ON signal until the room has been completely vacated for the entire duration of your configured delay, the controller transmits its learned OFF signal, and new motion is subsequently detected.
Can the RZ050-DP regulate temperature instead of completely turning off the AC?
Yes. The RZ050-DP can learn temperature commands instead of power commands. For example, you can teach it an active 21°C command triggered upon room entry, and an energy-saving 28°C setback command triggered after the vacancy delay expires. This keeps rooms comfortable for pets or sensitive interiors while preventing excessive energy waste.
How does Night Mode work, and why does my time delay change?
Night Mode uses an ambient light sensor calibrated to 1 Lux (equivalent to moonlight). When ambient light is 1 Lux or greater, the controller operates normally. When ambient light drops below 1 Lux, the controller suppresses the automatic OFF command so sleeping occupants are not left without cooling due to lack of movement. PIR motion sensing remains active to transmit an ON command upon entry. In Night Mode, delays of 15m and 30m are automatically coerced to 1 hour to protect sleep continuity.
Can I pair the RZ050-DP with Rayzeek RZ001 wireless door/window sensors?
No. The RZ050-DP does not contain an RF receiver and cannot communicate with door or window sensors. If your application requires turning off the AC when doors or windows are left open, select the RZ050-DS series (Post ID 18736 or 18759), which features an integrated 433MHz RF receiver engineered specifically for RZ001 sensors.
What are the installation distances and line-of-sight requirements?
The RZ050-DP must be wall-mounted in the same room as the AC unit. The recommended PIR detection distance to occupants is 1 to 6 meters (maximum range 6–9 meters). The maximum IR communication distance to the AC receiver is 10 meters within a 30° fan-shaped radiation angle. The IR transmitter is mechanically adjustable to aim precisely at your AC unit.
What do the LED indicator blinks mean, and can I turn off the motion light?
During normal operation, the Fresnel lens flashes red when motion is detected (governed by a 5-second minimum interval). If you prefer no light, press and hold both the MODE and TIME buttons for 3 seconds to toggle the detection light off. When battery voltage is low, the lens blinks red 5 times continuously, alerting you to replace the 2x AAA batteries.
