What is Frosted Lens

In the context of the lighting, frosted lens refers to a specialized type of lens that is designed to conceal LED diodes while still allowing for effective light transmission. It is particularly useful in applications where minimizing glare from the diodes is crucial, such as parking garages, freezers, and retail spaces. The primary function of a frosted lens is to diffuse the light emitted by the diodes, resulting in a softer and more evenly distributed illumination.

Frosted lens can effectively hide the individual LED diodes, creating a more aesthetically pleasing lighting effect. By diffusing the light, the frosted lens ensures that the full intensity of the diodes is not visible, reducing the potential for glare and discomfort. This makes it an ideal choice for environments where a more subtle and diffused lighting effect is desired.

While a frosted lens may slightly reduce the overall light output compared to a clear lens, typically around 3-5%, it still maintains a high level of light transmission. This reduction in brightness is minimal and often outweighed by the benefits of reduced glare and a more pleasing lighting ambiance. It is important to note that frosted lenses are compatible with frosted LED tube lamps but may not be suitable for use with LED boards due to potential issues with glare.
