What is ETL Listing

ETL Listing refers to the certification process conducted by Electrical Testing Laboratories (ETL), a division of Intertek Testing Laboratories. As an integral part of the Nationally Recognized Testing Laboratory (NRTL) program, ETL offers comprehensive assurance, testing, inspection, and certification services across various industries, including the lighting industry.

Similar to Underwriters Laboratories (UL), ETL tests products to the same safety standards as all NRTLs and affixes their ETL Listed mark to the tested products. This mark serves as an indication that the product has undergone rigorous testing and successfully meets the safety and performance standards established by the relevant industry.

The ETL Listing certification holds significant recognition and acceptance within the lighting industry. It signifies that a product has successfully met the necessary safety standards and can be confidently used by consumers. The presence of the ETL Listed mark on product packaging assures consumers, retailers, and regulatory authorities that the product has been thoroughly tested and complies with the required criteria.

While UL and ETL Listings adhere to similar testing standards, slight differences may exist in the surveillance programs they implement. These programs involve regular inspections and audits of manufacturing facilities to ensure ongoing compliance with the established standards. Although the specific details of these surveillance programs may vary between UL and ETL, both certifications aim to uphold the safety and quality of products bearing their respective marks.
