反射率の具体的な測定法のひとつに、光反射率値（LRV）がある。LRVはパーセンテージで表され、表面の色によって反射される光の総量を表します。スケールは、光をすべて吸収する真っ黒の0%から、光をすべて反射する真っ白の100%まであります。例えば、黒色の表面は通常、約5%の低いLRVを有し、約95%の光を吸収することを示し、白色の表面は約85%の高いLRVを有し、約15%の光を反射することを示す。
反射率は、インテリアデザインや建築など、さまざまな業界で重要な意味を持つ。部屋や建物に特定のムードや雰囲気を作り出す上で重要な役割を果たす。さまざまなカラーデザインは、特定の結果を得るために、望ましい反射特性に基づいて選択されます。例えば、病院や医療センターでは、衛生的で清潔とされる淡い色調や白を使うことが多い。また、反射率は公共スペースで視覚障害者のために色のコントラストを作るのにも役立ちます。
