波長とは
波長とは、波の連続する2つの頂上または谷間の距離のこと。光の挙動を理解する上で基本的な概念であり、照明設計と技術の様々な側面において極めて重要である。照明業界では、光は横波の形で自由空間を伝播すると表現されることが多い。この波は振動する光子から成り、波の進行方向は光子の振動方向に対して垂直である。波長はこれらの波の重要な特徴であり、記号λ（ラムダ）で表される。
波長の測定は、波の連続する2つの頂上または連続する2つの谷の間で行うことができる。クレストとは波の最高点を指し、トラフとは最低点を指す。これらの点間の距離を測定することによって、波の波長を決定することができる。
