HEV光は、太陽などの自然光源と、LED照明、コンピューター画面、デジタル電子機器などの人工光源の両方から放出される。紫外線が目や皮膚に害を及ぼす可能性は以前から認識されていたが、HEV光の重要性は当初見過ごされていた。しかし、最近の研究により、HEV光曝露による潜在的な悪影響が明らかになりつつある。
