低圧ナトリウム（LPS）ランプとは
低圧ナトリウム（LPS）ランプは、酸化ナトリウム（SOX）ランプとも呼ばれ、ナトリウム蒸気とネオンやアルゴンなどの希ガスの混合ガスに、低い圧力と温度で電流を流して作動する照明器具の一種です。LPSランプは、主に589.3ナノメートルの波長で放出される、独特のイエロー・オレンジ色の光出力が特徴です。この 単色光 は非常に効率的である。 発光効率つまり、単位消費電力あたりかなりの量の可視光を発生する。

LPSランプは長寿命で知られ、最大18,000時間持続するランプもある。そのため、メンテナンスや交換コストが懸念される用途には理想的です。しかし、いくつかの制限があります。LPSランプはウォームアップ時間が比較的遅く、完全な明るさに達するまで数分かかります。さらに、単色の光出力であるため、色を正確に認識することが難しく、小売店や美術館のような演色性が求められる用途には不向きです。
エネルギー効率という点では、LPSランプは電力を可視光に変換する効率が非常に高い。1ワットあたり約150ルーメンという高い効率を誇り、最も効率的な照明光源のひとつとなっている。しかし、色出力が特殊で演色性に限界があるため、すべての照明用途に適しているわけではありません。
