近赤外光とは
近赤外光とも呼ばれる近赤外光は、可視光線のすぐ先にある近赤外線スペクトルに含まれる特定の波長の光を指す。その特徴は 単色性単一波長からなる。照明業界では、NIR光は様々な用途、特に眼や組織の光バイオモジュレーション（PBM）の分野で一般的に利用されている。

一方、LEDはコヒーレントではないが、特定の波長の光を効率よく発する。しかし、LEDには発熱が少ないという利点があり、熱損傷の危険性がなく安全に使用できる。さらに、LEDは人間工学に基づいた機能を持つアレイに連結することができ、脳のような広い領域に効率よくエネルギーを供給することができる。
レーザーとLEDの両方を含むNIR光は、人体実験が行われ、FDA（食品医薬品局）から認可を受けている。この承認は、特定の用途におけるNIR光治療の安全性と有効性を強調するものである。
