HPS 灯泡由外部玻璃外壳和内部装有钠气的玻璃管组成。当电流通过加压管时，钠气蒸发并发出有利于植物生长的红光。处理灯泡时一定要戴上手套，避免赤手接触，因为皮肤上的油脂时间长了会使灯泡降解和破裂。
