Het werkt als een sensor die veranderingen in lichtintensiteit detecteert en een reactie in een elektrisch of elektronisch circuit teweegbrengt. <\/p><p>Het doel van een fotocel is om variaties in lichtniveaus te detecteren en aangesloten circuits of apparaten dienovereenkomstig te activeren of deactiveren. Als de intensiteit van het omgevingslicht laag is, wordt de fotocel automatisch ingeschakeld, zodat het aangesloten circuit of apparaat kan worden geactiveerd.
