Deze ionen worden in de gastheerstof opgenomen om de gewenste luminescente eigenschappen te cre\u00ebren.<\/p><p>De doteringsconcentratie van de activatorstof wordt zorgvuldig geoptimaliseerd om een evenwicht te bereiken tussen effici\u00ebnte excitatie van de fosfor en minimale herabsorptie van uitgestraald licht. Het doel is om een voldoende kleine absorptielengte voor excitatielicht te verkrijgen en tegelijkertijd overmatige onderdrukking door energieoverdrachtsprocessen te vermijden.<\/p><p>Fosforen worden vaak geleverd in de vorm van fijne poeders met een gecontroleerde deeltjesgrootte. Deze poeders kunnen als dunne lagen worden aangebracht zodat het meeste licht kan ontsnappen en worden gebruikt. Er is echter een bepaalde dikte nodig om voldoende absorptie van het excitatielicht of de elektronen te garanderen.<\/p><p>Hoewel halfgeleiders die worden gebruikt in LED's en laserdiodes ook luminescentie vertonen, worden ze over het algemeen geen fosforen genoemd.
