Dazu wird das Hauptlicht in einem 45-Grad-Winkel zur Seite der Person positioniert und knapp \u00fcber deren Augenlinie angehoben. Auf diese Weise entsteht ein kreisf\u00f6rmiger Schatten, der als \"Schleife\" bezeichnet wird, auf dem Gesicht der fotografierten Person direkt unter der Nase. Der Schleifenschatten bildet sich auf der gegen\u00fcberliegenden Seite der Lichtquelle.
