Die Einheit Angstrom ist definiert als 0,1 Nanometer, die nach der Neudefinition des Meters in spektroskopischer Hinsicht eingef\u00fchrt wurde. Neben der Standard-Angstr\u00f6m-Einheit gab es auch eine kurzzeitig in Betracht gezogene Hilfseinheit, den Angstrom-Stern (Symbol: \u00c5*). Diese von J.A. Bearden 1965 vorgeschlagene Einheit sollte eine \u00e4hnliche Gr\u00f6\u00dfe wie das Standard-Angstr\u00f6m haben, aber direkt in Bezug auf die Spektroskopie definiert werden. Der Angstrom-Stern erwies sich jedoch als ungenau und aufgrund der Fortschritte bei den Messger\u00e4ten als veraltet. Es wurde festgestellt, dass seine Genauigkeit eher bei 15 Teilen pro Million lag, was den Anforderungen der Beleuchtungsindustrie nicht gen\u00fcgte.
