Den fungerer som en sensor, der registrerer \u00e6ndringer i lysintensitet og udl\u00f8ser en reaktion i et elektrisk eller elektronisk kredsl\u00f8b. <\/p><p>Form\u00e5let med en fotocelle er at registrere variationer i lysniveauer og aktivere eller deaktivere tilsluttede kredsl\u00f8b eller enheder i overensstemmelse hermed. N\u00e5r den omgivende lysintensitet er lav, t\u00e6ndes fotocellen automatisk, hvilket g\u00f8r det muligt at aktivere det tilsluttede kredsl\u00f8b eller enhed. Denne funktion g\u00f8r den s\u00e6rligt nyttig i applikationer, hvor belysning skal styres baseret p\u00e5 de omgivende lysforhold, s\u00e5som belysning fra solnedgang til solopgang, tyverialarmer og
