Disse solid-state-systemer anvender dioder og transistorer, som er to almindelige typer solid-state-enheder. Dioder er elektroniske komponenter, der tillader str\u00f8m at flyde i \u00e9n retning, mens de blokerer den fra den anden retning. De kan ogs\u00e5 fungere som ensrettere, der konverterer vekselstr\u00f8m (AC) til j\u00e6vnstr\u00f8m (DC).
