Det er et m\u00e5l for lysstyrken eller styrken af lyset p\u00e5 et bestemt punkt. Det symbol, der almindeligvis bruges til at repr\u00e6sentere intensitet, er I, og det m\u00e5les typisk i enheder som W\/m2 eller W\/cm2. Begrebet intensitet er t\u00e6t knyttet til m\u00e6ngden af lysenergi, der er koncentreret inden for et givet omr\u00e5de. Det giver v\u00e6rdifuld information om lysstyrken og effektiviteten af et belysningssystem. I praksis kan intensiteten beregnes ved at dividere lyskildens effekt med arealet af den overflade, den transmitteres igennem.
